Does Berlusconi remind you of anyone?

Post  Don on Wed Sep 03, 2008 12:28 pm

Me mate Berlusconi is trying to bring in a bill that will allow judges suspend “nonurgent” cases, ones were the punishment is less than years. This new law has been passed by parliment but has yet to be passed by the Senate for final approval.

Another law proceeding through Parliament would grant immunity from prosecution to Italy’s top four officials - the president, prime minister and the two speakers of Parliament - while in office.

At first glance these new laws dont seem too dodgy, but if you take into consideration that the Italian PM, is being charged with paying British lawyer David Mills $600,000 in 1997 from secret funds held by his broadcasting company Mediaset to withhold incriminating details of his business dealings.

Power corrutps. Absolute power corrupts, absolutly.

This reminds me of what the current Irish government that are planning to halt all tribunals that are looking into corruption allegations. It just so happens that the only tribunals going are ones that involve two ex-Toaiseachts from the rulling part, Fianna Fail.
