The French Presidency is organising an "i2010" conference in line with the EU strategy to boost the digital economy and information society in Europe.

The purpose of this conference is to accelerate the development of infrastructures and services of the future and to stimulate reflection on what needs to be done to foster their growth. More specifically, the following subjects will be addressed:
- the internet of the future: European R&D strategy, presentation of the disruptive trends of the internet of the future and recommendations;
- fixed high-speed broadband: exchanges of best practices for the reduction of deployment costs, the role of local authorities, etc.;
- mobile high-speed broadband: frequency needs, standardisation, presentation of mobile internet services;
- secure mobile services: obstacles to the pan-European development of the service, interoperability, security and trust;
- information system security: security in payment services and network resilience.

The conference will be opened by Eric Besson, the French Minister of State to the Prime Minister with responsibility for Forward Planning, Assessment of Public Policies and Development of the Digital Economy, and Luc Châtel, the French Minister of State with responsibility for Industry and Consumer Affairs and Government Spokesperson.

The i2010 initiative is the European Commission's strategic framework setting out the policy guidelines for the media, internet and information society.

The promotion of the information society and information technologies is one of the goals of the Lisbon Strategy. With the i2010 initiative, the European Union is adopting a consistent approach to all of the initiatives relating to the information society. In its 2005 communication, the Commission set three objectives:
- the establishment of a Single European Information Space,
- increased innovation and investment in research on information and communication techologies (ICT),
-the development of an information society and media based on inclusion, offering high-quality public services and improving the quality of life.
