The Presidency of the European Union has learned with dismay of the death in Nazran, Ingushetia, of Mr Magomed Yevloyev, owner of "ingushetiya.ru", the independent specialised website on the Caucasus. It offers its condolences to his family and friends.
It calls upon the Russian authorities to shed all possible light on this affair.
The European Union reiterates the importance which it attaches to the freedom of the press and emphasises its concern over the fresh outbreak of violence in the Northern Caucasus
